IHS-BiRD & L Approves MLLPS Conferment on Hakyaav Tombu Peter
Abuja, Nigeria — The Institute for Historical Studies, Biographical Research, Documentation and Legacy (IHS-BiRD & L) has approved the conferment of the Meritorious Legacy Laureate of Public Service (MLLPS), Civic and Humanitarian Service Division, upon Hakyaav Tombu Peter, in recognition of his sustained contributions to humanitarian service and youth empowerment in Benue State.
The approval follows a comprehensive institutional review conducted in line with the Institute’s honours framework, which evaluates nominees based on sustained service, recognised merit, and measurable impact within a state.
Hakyaav Tombu Peter, a business leader and Chief Executive Officer of Harrypee Group of Companies, has been recognised for a consistent record of grassroots philanthropic engagement. His interventions span critical areas of social need, including paying hospital bills for individuals requiring urgent medical attention, sponsoring school fees for students, providing financial support to widows and vulnerable persons, and providing startup capital to support small-scale enterprises.
Documented records indicate that his financial interventions range from hundreds of thousands of naira to grants of up to one million naira extended to multiple beneficiaries, contributing to economic participation and livelihood development across communities in Benue State.
In addition to direct humanitarian assistance, the Institute noted his sustained advocacy for youth empowerment and self-reliance. Through mentorship, public engagement, and youth-focused initiatives involving hundreds of participants, he has encouraged young people to pursue productive livelihoods and reduce dependence on patronage systems.
Speaking on the development, the Institute stated that the award under the Civic and Humanitarian Service Division recognises individuals whose actions demonstrate direct impact on human welfare and community development.
“This conferment reflects a documented pattern of sustained humanitarian intervention and civic engagement,” the Institute noted. “His activities in healthcare support, education, welfare, and enterprise development illustrate a model of public service rooted in accessibility, responsiveness, and measurable community impact.”
The Institute further emphasised that grassroots contributions of this nature are often underrepresented in formal records, underscoring its commitment to documenting and recognising such efforts in line with its core values of Truth First, Guardians of Memory, Justice Through Legacy, and History for Growth.
The Meritorious Legacy Laureate of Public Service (MLLPS) is one of the Institute’s distinguished honours, designed to celebrate individuals whose consistent service contributes to social development and civic advancement at the subnational level.
Details regarding the formal conferment ceremony will be announced in due course.
